UV absorbers are now outdated. Significant damage (for example cataracts and macular degeneration) also occurs from the high energy visible (HEV) wavelengths contained in the violet and blue regions of the spectrum. Sun lenses and light filters should therefore reduce these colors. However, this is not easy to do without leading to a loss of color perception. Melanin based sunglasses and fluorescent light filters eliminate all the UV and significantly reduce the HEV - without causing a loss of color perception.
